ABOUT PFMU


Project Financial Management Unit is a Unit under the office of the Accountant General that provides Financial Management (FM) service to all the World Bank project implementing entities in a state, and ensures compliance with World Bank FM requirements ranging from Planning, Budgeting, Accounting, Financial Reporting, Internal control, Auditing, Procurement, Disbursement and the physical performance of the projects with the aim of managing resources to achieve the development objectives of the State.

HISTORY OF PFMU
The Unit was established in February 2003 by the World Bank in collaborations with then Multi-Lateral Department (now International Economic Relations Department) of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the State office of the Accountant General.

The Unit started with two units (Account & Audit) and four (4) staffs which is headed by Mr. Mahdi Mele Aliyu as the Head PFMU, Aminu Umaru Yuguda as Project Accountant, Mohammed Dawaki as Internal Auditor and Ibrahim Danmama Jagra as Project Finance Officer with the Health System Development Project (HSDP II) as the First World Bank Project to be operated under purview of PFMU.

In the year 2022, the Unit, headed by Malam Shehu Muhammad Bello, comprised three sub-units: Account, Audit, and Procurement, with a staff strength exceeding thirty (30) personnel. Malam Shehu Muhammad Bello succeeded Malam Aminu Umaru Yuguda, who was appointed as the Accountant General of the State in 2020.

In the year 2023, Malam Shehu Muhammad Bello, the head of PFMU, expanded the unit by adding an MIS (Management Information Systems) unit. This addition brought the total number of sub-units to four, including Account, Audit, MIS, and Procurement.
